Ten on the Tyne

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has installed its 10th Abbott CELL-DYN haematology analyser. The Abbott CELL-DYN 1800 will be permanently based in a clinic at the Royal Victoria Infirmary to determine blood counts during intrauterine transfusions.

Ian Mellors, laboratory automation manager, says, "The system is robust with good reliability and is well suited to this situation offering us laboratory grade results in the clinic. Having a number of Abbott analysers makes the results comparable, regardless of where they are performed."

Staff from both the ward and the laboratory will work together in partnership to operate and maintain the analyser, ensuring consistently accurate results.
